I Have A Friend
But I don't know him very well.
I hope my little poem gives him a sign
Because his name I'll never tell
We've sent some mail and said hello
As friends, we haven't gotten far.
In fact, if he has feelings, he hasn't let it show.
So I will just continue my wishing on a star.
I sometime wonder if he too, wishes on a star,
Or thinks about me when he looks up toward the sky.
I know we'll never meet, the space between us is too far
And so I spend my time in dreamland and think of him and sigh.
I often wonder what would happen if only I weren't shy,
Would he be glad I stayed awhile, or would he turn and go?
I wonder if we got together, what would happen by and by?
I like to think we'd be great friends and maybe love would grow.
Maybe we could give to one another
Something that our lives have missed.
Maybe if I wish real hard, he will become my lover,
Right now I have to wonder if he even cares that I exist!
So... if you know this friend of mine,
(I'll never tell his name).
Please let him know I've sent a sign,
My heart is now a flame
And if by chance... it could be you,
This friend I'm thinking of...
Just drop a line, say..."Hey, me too!"
And maybe a friendship will turn to love.
